Die Kunst der Arschbombe

The "Splashdiving World Championship" used to be known as the "Arschbombe" ("butt bomb") contest. This term has been used by generations of kids in public pools in Germany, as it graphically describes the act of jumping, landing on the behind and causing the greatest possible sound and splash. Photographed in Essen in the summer of 2009.

Leider heißt die Arschbomben-WM heute nicht mehr so. Seit ein paar Jahren nennt sie sich "Splashdiving World Championship". 2009 fand die Meisterschaft im Essener Gruga-Bad statt, wo die Tradition dieses Sprungstils seit Generationen gepflegt wird, und wo eine Arschbombe noch eine Arschbombe ist.
